TackSHS Project-Annual Consortium Meeting
Project Consortium of TackSHS Project gathered in the last annual meeting of the project in the beautiful Tuscany city, Florence (Italy) from 23rd May to 24th May 2019. The main objectives of the meeting was to present and discuss progress related to the project, up to May 2019, and to address challenges in the project before the final results are presented to the EU Parliament in October 2019 in Brussel.
The meeting was started by a welcoming speech by Prof. Gianna Amunni as the representative of Institute for Cancer Research and Prevention (ISPRO) as the host of the meeting. In the following sessions, each work package (WP) partner shared the most recent results and received feedbacks from other partners. Six WPs were presented on the first day which consisting the topic on environmental assessment in private and outdoor settings, secondhand smoke (SHS) and e-cigarettes, intervention to reduce SHS in home and car, acute health effects from SHS and e-cigarette’s exposure, and methods to measure SHS. On the second day, the rest of the WPs were presented which included the topics on attributable mortality and morbidity of SHS, economic impact of SHS, and environmental assessment of passive exposure to e-cigarette aerosol. There was also an update on Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Tobacco 2019 by Joan Soriano from Research Institute of the Hospital de la Princesa. The consortium also planned ahead on dissemination activities that should be completed before the Final Conference in Brussel. As the closing remark, the coordinator of the project, Esteve Fernandez from Tobacco Control Unit at Catalan Institute of Oncology (TCU-CIO) appreciated and encouraged partners to enhance the progress of the project that they have achieved so far.
