With a theme of ‘Tobacco Control for Sustainable Development: Ensuring a Healthy Generation’, APACT12th brought together the region’s high-level delegates and key stakeholders to co-create comprehensive solutions and share best practices to the tobacco control challenge towards achieving overall SDGs aspects in Asia-Pacific.

There was a Youth Camp as a pre-conference event held a day before the main conference taking place which aimed to raise awareness about the tobacco control and Tobacco Industry Accountability (TIA) among Asia-Pacific youth and equipped them with the opportunity to be involved in the implementation of tobacco control in their countries. A member of Tobacco Control Unit, Beladenta Amalia (Doctoral researcher) also joined the event as one of fifty delegates from 15 countries. The youths were provided with many skills to plan and execute a campaign strategy to counter the tobacco industry interference.

During the 3-day conference participants actively engaged in poster session, oral presentation, plenary session and many panel discussion on diverse tobacco control topics. In the oral communication session, Beladenta presented her study about the impact of tobacco control in Indonesia. There was a “The Great E-cigarette debate” in the last day which encompassing the pros and cons of e-cigarettes in the tobacco control context. Lastly, a declaration to advance the commitment towards tobacco control in the region was announced in the closing ceremony. The APACT13th will be hosted by Thailand in 2020.
